Spain: Sanction process begins against uncompetitive gas companies

 |  July 3, 2017

Spanish competition regulator CNMC has begun proceedings that may lead to heavy fines against Gas Natural S.U.R. SDG and Endesa Energia XXI, over the companies’ use of ‘Last Resort Fee’ customers as publicity for their own regular services, thereby attracting consumers to the detriment of their competitors.

The agency has gathered evidence reasonably indicating the violation above, breaking Article 3 of the country’s Competition laws, consisting of a ‘False competition’.

The investigation was launched after complaints were presented by the Catalan ‘Associació de Gremis d’Installadors, representing gas installers from throughout the Catalunya region.
