Mexico: New nominee for COFECE is ratified

Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto has nominated José Eduardo Mendoza Contreras as a new commissioner at the Federal Commission for Economic Competition (COFECE).

If the Senate ratifies the president’s proposal, Mendoza Contreras will fill the vacancy left by Benjamín Contreras Astiazarán and will hold the post for nine years. José Eduardo Mendoza has a degree in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and has two Masters in Economics, one from the Colegio de México (Colmex) and another from the University of Boston.

Similarly, the president presented the Senate with the appointment of Sóstenes Díaz González as commissioner of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT). The career official will replace current commissioner Adriana Labardini, for the next 9 years.

Díaz González has 16 years of experience in the implementation of regulatory policy, serving as General Director for Regulation of Interconnection and Resale of Telecommunication Services within the IFT.
