Maritano, the company behind the historic ‘Popeye’ soap brand, has filed a complaint with the National Economic Prosecutor (FNE), accusing multinational conglomerate Unilever of predatory practices and abuse of dominance.
Maritano has accused its rival of “Continuously carrying out abusive practices that undermine free competition, both in the modern channels (supermarkets), and traditional channels (wholesale and markets), which infringe the conciliatory agreement”, referring to the agreement signed by the country’s main brands of detergents three years ago.
“Ultimately, Unilever Chile is seeking to monopolize spaces and suffocate its competitors,” said the company in its lawsuit, received on June 27 by the FNE.
