The vice president for Latin America at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Peter Cerda, praised the Argentinian government’s commercial air policy, but questioned the dominance of Intercargo over the airport service sector.
Cerda warned of the need to liberalize handling services at airports, “that are today are monopolized by Intercargo, which, besides being expensive, is inefficient,” he said. Cerda added that IATA wants “an open market” and that “what happens in Argentina with Intercargo does not exist at a global level”.
“The airspace of Buenos Aires requires improvements, more efficiency, more technology and the Government is working on it, has understood the importance of all this and has given a fundamental shift to the policy that had been carried out until three years ago,” commented the businessman and IATA official.
“We are working along with the Government in the airport area, with the low cost that is entering the market, growth is taking place in a sustained manner and in that sense the air space is very important for us, it becomes a priority,” Cerda said.
